Certain svg files, when saved as eps, produce unsharp eps lines at high magnification, other svg files do not have the problem.
On what does this depend? Is this on OSX issue?

I can provide examples if needed.

If you had used Copy/Paste in Inkscape, before you made the changes which I references in your other message, then the unsharp lines in the EPS could potentially be related to the Mac copy/paste issue.

I'm not set up to be able to view EPS files, although other people in this forum are.  So you're welcome to share the EPS file.  But you can probably figure this out on your own.  In the EPS file, opened in Inkscape, select the unsharp objects (with Selection tool), and check the status bar.  If the status bar says "Image...." then that means they were rasterized, probably by using copy/paste (but not necessarily).

If those objects aren't identified in the status bar as images, then there must be some other explanation.  Be sure to identify which objects you want us to look at, if you share the file, because we might not necessarily see the same problem that you see.  (Sometimes problems are very subtle, and more subjective.)

If you use blur or other filters, or partial transparency, your output could be rasterized instead of stay as vector data. An example file would be helpful, yes.

Here is one example of an svg which is sharp, but an eps generated from it which is not.

In fact, I have a suspicion now: is the
grey box on the lower left sharp in the svg file? Could it be that if it is not, the
eps gets unsharp everywhere?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure what the culprit is, but I get the same (on Linux Mint, with the stable development version 0.92.x).

I tried:
- cleaning up the document
- nudging all paths so a rewrite is triggered
- ungrouping everything
- exporting to ps instead
- combining paths, so they will definitely be rewritten

Yet, there are objects missing (different ones with different changes I make), and a raster version of the graphic is overlaid on the vector data in the exported file. I'm not sure if this is an Inkscape or a ghostscript issue, though.

Please check the bug reports, and if yours isn't there, create a new one here: https://inkscape.org/report - maybe someone else will be able to help.

Thank you all for your help. With your advice I found a workaround: by eliminating all objects that are blurred ones and have transparency, the blurring disappears.

Thank you all again for the help. You helped me to solve a difficult problem. The eps picture files are now as desired.

What can be done to encourage a better OSX version of Inkscape? On Windows it is such a gorgeous program, and on OSX it is only half ready. And on the other hand there is nothing as powerful as Inkscape available on OSX.

I just wanted to let all of you - who work on making Inkscape a better program - know that you are doing a great job. Your work is useful, professional, and leading edge. Your involvement is an example to many.

Please go on!

From what I understand, there's a small team working a Mac version of the long awaited version 1.0!  I'm not sure if it's available in alpha yet?
